Around UBC

2009.05.01
The UBC Thunderbird stadium.

Carved wooden arch outside the forestry building. Donated to the faculty of forestry in 2001, by Sopron graduates who left Hungary in the 50s to emigrate to Canada.

I think this has something to do with a frat house, so I haven't bothered to find out any more about it.

Outside earth sciences, with the observatory reflected in the glass.

This garden is full of different types of rock.

Sciency diagrams in the pavement.

The whaler's pole, outside the psychology department.

Great Trek memorial cairn.

Clock tower and Irving K Barber learning centre.

I thought this was an old car, but apparently it's art. The Millennnial Time Machine, by Rodney Graham - "the hypothetical realization of an early cinematic device".

Totem outside Brock Hall.

The rose garden.

Sunset over the Howe Sound.

This pile of logs is also art.

For some reason, when you stand in the middle of this thing, you hear a very strong echo if you speak.

The final cache. I forgot to take my lens hood off so there's a big shadow.

Stained glass in the Chemistry building.

Fiona and I took on a "multicache" after work on Friday. It took us on a tour of interesting places at UBC. We ended up at the final location (of 12 stages) in the dark, hunting around with a torch, but we were successful.
