Around Ladner

2009.05.03
The first of 20 geocaches, retrieved from a bush down an alleyway behind a church.

A church in Lader.

A more healthy sized geocache at Wellington point.

View up the Fraser river, from Wellington Point.

Looking North towards Vancouver and the North shore mountains.

Swans, geese, a Great Blue heron and at least two species of duck (mallard and wigeon).

Houseboats on the Fraser river.

The bridge to Westham Island, rotating to let a boat through.

Rural farmlands.

I think these stakes are what's left of an old cannery that stood on this site.

The dyke trail.

Trust me, there is an American Bittern in this photo.

American Bittern, departing noisily.

Looking South towards the coalport.

I was expecting more of a bridge than this. I did get a round of applause from a group of men when I hauled my bike up on my shoulder to get across. After I cycled off down the road, I was stopped by a police car, and asked whether I'd seen four men...

Fiona has hurt her foot, so I set off on a solo cycle ride around Ladner, taking in rural farmlands, a dyke trail, a marina, several parks, and no less than 20 geocaches. I also saw my first American Bittern, and came across a nesting Red-tailed Hawk.
