Porteau Cove diving with the Stus

2009.10.10
In the dive-mobile!

Waiting for our kit to be ready, in the dive shop.

Big Stu is upset that I decide to take a photo while he is holding all the diving weights.

At Porteau Cove. Not exactly California.

Harbour seals come to check us out.

Nice easy entry shore dive.

The buoy chain at our descent point. Visibility very poor!

Giant plumose anemones were on every surface!

Me! Underwater!

Quillback Rockfish.

A crab having a go at a sea cucumber. There's also a rockfish skulking in the dark.

Plumose anemones covering the wreck.

Fiona.

Stu.

Sunflower Star.

I'm not sure what this is.

Leather star.

Ling cod. Some of these were huge.

For Fiona's birthday, I arranged a surprise visit from the Stus. They came up from LA for a weekend of diving. It was great to have them with us for our first dives since doing the Open Water course. We started off with two shore dives at Porteau Coves. Conditions were quite poor - bad visibility and quite a strong surface current, but the underwater scenery was astonishing. There were several wrecks covered in life - giant plumose anemones, sea cucumbers, rockfish, seastars, crabs, ling cod and much more.
